It took almost two years but Closer, one of the Chainsmoker’s biggest hits, has finally been certified diamond by the record industry association of America. Recently, the DJ and production duo as well as their collaborator, Halsey, took to their respective social media accounts to break the exciting news to their fans. The RIAA has yet to update their website to reflect this change but we expect it’s only a matter of time. They last certified their album back in March of last year when the hit single reached platinum status seven times. In fact, the song became the fourth longest-running Number 1 hit in the history of the US. Additionally, it has gone on to win a slew of awards including their first-ever Grammy nominations and three billboard music awards.
Of course, the DJ and production duo have had successful hit singles prior to the release of Closer as has Halsey but it was this particular song that helped rocket them to superstardom. Upon its release, the track quickly made a beeline for the top of the Hot 100 chart and reigned supreme at the top of the listing that covers every type of genre for twelve weeks straight. Ever since it dropped with its respective album, it has accrued a record number of sales, streams, and downloads. In fact, it was even the longest-running chart topper on the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic chart until recently getting surpassed by a new song that is sung by Zedd and company.
While Halsey was already a rising star prior to the release of Closer, it was this single that truly solidified her status as a musical legend. Heading back into the studio, the Chainsmokers are currently working on their next studio album which they have confirmed will be entitled, Sick Boy. Not much is known about this new project of theirs, although they have already released a few songs from the album including the title track. Although they plan on releasing another track from the album this Friday, a release date for the album itself still has yet to be confirmed.
